I’ll be perfectly honest with you, dear reader that I didn’t plan on writing updates about my reading / listening progress. But I have very few people to talk to specifically about this. So I might as well write down my absurd thoughts about this silly book that so many people are obsessed with and see what people say to me about it. So here goes. I’ll of course be bantery, and jokey because thats what you expect of dear ol’Drew. and thats fine. I’m here for your entertainment after all. Better than the other options honestly. And, this will of course be filled with spelling mistakes and the whatnot. My grasp of the english language isn’t what it used to be. Was it ever? Who’s to say? In any case as I publish these on this here internet relish in the fact that its bringing me great joy that pretty much nobody will see these and thats fine by my. The joy comes in the doing. Building the system to deploy such antics online. To immortalize my silly comments, quips and hot takes about characters I don’t even know yet. Trivial matter. I hope you enjoy it.
The first few chapters of this first book we meet Feyre. If you ask me the way this is spelt and the way this is spoken are two different creatures altogether. This is fine for me cause I’m enjoying the soothing sounds of Graphic Audio. Which while this is my first experience with the format I will say all other audiobooks are trash in comparison. Just why even bother. Wow.
Ya girl Fey, I’m calling her Fey get used to it. Is a self fashioned hunter and is starving and hunting for food. She’s out and about “hunting” and low and behold we learn alot about this girl right out the gate. She’s poor. Her family used to have money but now. Poor. Starving and cold. 🥶 Go figure. She’s spotted a deer she hopes to take down so she can feed her family and then sell the pelt at the market for some coin that hopefully her sisters wont steal and use on useless trinkets. Solid family dynamic right from the jump. Well surprise, just as she goes to shoot the deer a giant wolf appears oh yeah. You know where this is going. Yup, We learn that Fey hates Faeries, this wolf could be a high Fae in disguise. Fae are bad and want to kill and torture all humans so, because she hates Fae she kills the wolf. Thanks to her Ash Arrow she used. One shot one kill! Oh yeah Ash is bad for Fae. Go figure. She skins the wolf and leaves the meat and takes the deer back to the house. Win WIN…
Back home Fey washes up for dinner and we learn more about the fam-jam. The oldest sister is Nesta. She’s a bitch. Thats the best way I can describe her. She’s a wannabe influencer whos got the hots for some dude in town who’s dad beats his wife and his sons are too chicken shit to do anything about it. Her other sister Elain is nothing like the Elaine from Seinfeld and cant dance worth a shit Doesn’t even have a boyfriend and just is too fucking cheery given the situation at hand. And Dad? Dad’s a cripple who lost the family business and got his leg crippled by the dumbest fantasy mobsters of all time. If you had a guy that owed you money. A significant amount of money. Would you like that guy to be healthy enough to be able to get you said money? Not these guys! They cripple this poor bastard so he cant make a dime and now they’ll never get their money. Stupid jabrons! They eat and we learn about Fey’s mom and the deathbed promise. Lots of exposition here. Back story. Do we need all of this? DO we need two sisters? The boyfriends? Isaac? Dad’s wood carvings? It’s alot. But its also kinda boooooring…
Its around this point in time where I called it quits for day one. Pretty happy with my first outing honestly. Better than I expected. Graphic Audio is picking up alot of slack here. Excited to see where this goes. Definitly ned to find my legs with these updates. But I’ll get better… I hope.
